Mardi Gras Celebration!

Joyeux Mardi Gras!

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Mardi Gras is a holiday celebrated all over the world. In many parts of the world it is called Carnival. It dates back as far as Roman Time. Mardi Gras was introduced to the United States (Louisiana) by the early French explorers in 1699.

The name Carnival or Carne Vale comes from Latin meaning "farewell meat." Regardless of what you call it, this day is a day of celebration and preparing for the Lenten Season... a period of 40 days before Easter, when many Catholics fast and atone for their sins.

Many countries celebrate this day by having large parties, eating their favorite foods and sharing good times with their friends and family.

In New Orleans they have many parades which last about two weeks before the actual Mardi Gras day. They wear the colors Gold for Power, Green for Justice and Purple for Faith.

Students from Ms. Mango's World Language Class researched Mardi Gras, made beautiful masks, created an amazing float and elected a their very own King and Queen. We then shared in the festivities with the remainder of the White Brook family by having a fabulous Mardi Gras parade.

Laissez les bons temps roulez!

It was great fun!
