White Brook Middle School

Fall Book Fair

and Literature Showcase

The Literature Showcase was a wonderful opportunity to see samples of projects which students have been working on in school and how those projects relate to specific standards in the state frameworks. The showcase of exhibits included:

  • Point of View Projects in which students had rewritten parts of popular novels from the point of view of one of their favorite characters in the story or from the perspective of an entirely new character who could have been a part of the story.
  • Making Connections in which students revealed through writing and art how they think about their reading and connect it to their lives, to other books they've read, and to the world in general.
  • Book Sharing: Oral Presentations in which students shared some of the work they've done in preparation for their presentations. Notes, book logs, summaries, and posters reveal how they work on getting the main ideas, summarizing, organizing their ideas, and evaluating what they read.
  • Book Sharing Projects: Postcards in which students wrote postcards from the point of view of one of the characters in a book they've read. The message reveals some of the plot of the book, and the illustration created for the front of each postcard helps the students learn more about the setting of the story
  • Student Authors: The Writing Process: With the help of Mr. Goodwin-Boyd, our Writer in Residence, are becoming authors in their own right. Students have been learning the importance of revising their pieces for their audience.
  • Fall Poetry: Students showed their youthful way of seeing the world in their imaginative use of figurative language.
